Why Make this Mango Pineapple Smoothie?

The full recipe card is below, so let’s get started with the ingredients and all of the “how-to’s.”

First of all, if you are here, you like the idea of mango and pineapple in a smoothie.

Next, smoothies are one of the easiest on the go foods that you can feel good about drinking.  Many people don’t eat enough fruit during the day, so it is a great way to get those fruit servings.  In addition, some smoothies also contain vegetables. So, BONUS if you get those veggies in as well!

Why Is This Smoothie So Good?

This smoothie has TROPICAL vibes that are off the charts.  You will be adding coconut milk to this smoothie which really adds so much to the tropical aspect of the smoothie.

If you are not a huge fan of coconut milk but you like the idea of the mango and pineapple, NO PROBLEM!  Go ahead and make the substitute for your favorite type of milk.  For example, you can substitute almond milk, dairy milk, cashew milk, or whichever you like. Use the same measurement.

This DIY mango pineapple smoothie will leave your taste buds as satisfied as if you had one from McDonalds.  The best part about making smoothies at home is that you can usually save money and also have control over what goes into it.

You can add more or less of your favorite ingredients to the smoothie.  In addition, if you want the smoothie to have more protein, add your favorite protein powder.

However, the mango pineapple smoothie recipe that we are sharing in this post today does include Greek yogurt.

So the Greek yogurt will be a source of added protein to this delicious mango pineapple smoothie.

What Fruits Blend Well with Pineapple?

Pineapple blends well with most fruits.  However, pineapple is very fibrous and sort of stringy.  Therefore, fruits that are more smooth work well to balance the texture.

Here are some examples of fruits that blend well with pineapple:

  • Banana
  • Mango
  • Kiwi
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Dragon Fruit
  • Papaya
Ripe pineapples also tend to be very sweet, so they are great for adding a sweetness to smoothies.

Mango pairs wells with most fruits, and it is perfect for a smoothie. Think of mango as sort of a light citrus flavor.  This will help you with your pairings.

Here are some examples of fruits that blend well with mangoes:

What is the Best Smoothie Blender?

A good blender is worth the investment when it comes to making smoothies.  I have tried many types of blender, and my favorite blender is the Vitamix brand (E310 Explorian).  I have it linked here if you want to check it out.

I use this blender to also make homemade dressings and sauces as well.  A quality blender will last a long time with good care.

How to Make a Mango Pineapple Smoothie

Start with Gathering Smoothie Ingredients

#1 Mango Chunks

For this recipe, frozen mango is one of the main ingredients.  Using frozen mango is great because there is no knife required.  All you have to do is open a bag of frozen mangoes.

The good news is that the nutritional value of frozen mango and fresh is the same.  So pop open that bag and make it easy on yourself.

Now, that being said, feel free to use fresh mango if you wish.  Fresh mango that is overripe is perfect to use in smoothies.  Moreover, if you have fresh mango that you want to peel and slice for another day is great for freezing to use in a future smoothie recipe.

#2 Pineapple

Get your can opener ready, and grab your can of pineapple.  The convenience of using canned pineapple is impeccable.

After opening the can, drain the juice.  But wait a minute, don’t throw it out.  The pineapple juice makes a fantastic ingredient for sauces or just mix with water for a refreshing juice infused water.

Similar to the mango, you can use fresh pineapple if you wish.

#3 Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is a great ingredient to get the tropical vibes in full effect in this recipe.  Choose unsweetened coconut milk to have less added sugar.  The sweetness of the fruit does sweeten this recipe.  Add more honey if further sweetness is desired.

#4  Vanilla Greek Yogurt

The yogurt is going to make the smoothie nice, thick, and creamy.  Moreover, it will add a delicious flavor to the smoothie that you won’t want to miss.

Yogurt also adds some protein to the smoothie, especially using Greek yogurt.  Feel free to substitute a yogurt that you might have on hand.  I used Activia yogurt in these pictures because that is what I had on hand.

#5 Honey

The recipe doesn’t call for a lot of honey.  A little bit goes along way.  Just adding a tablespoon will deliver a good sweetness.  However, if you need it sweeter, feel free to customize your smoothie.

#6 Ground Ginger

Ground ginger adds a hint of flavor in the background.  If you prefer fresh ginger, feel free to use it.  However, I keep ground ginger in my spice cabinet, so it is very convenient when I need it.

#7 Ice

The ice add that nice cool touch to the smoothie that creates the texture of a true smoothie.
